A short term showcased work, with more detail about construction, technique and concepts.
AS
Space monkey, angels, medieval buildings, towers, and many other objects crammed into the picture plane. I was very keen to have a very full picture, with many clashing ideas. Jettisoning all traditional concepts of painting composition, and keeping away from what was current in the art world. This work was also a finalist in the Kenilworth Art Prize.
AS
Acrylic on composition board, 122x150cm, 2008.
This was painted in a period just after I built my first studio. With the extra space, and the feeling of expansion and the need for putting down new and bigger works - I embarked on a few bigger solo works.
This work is a mish mash of free hand drawing, ramming and jamming many objects into the picture plane and just plain old fun.
It was also the main work in a Regional Gallery solo show named 'AS'. The show had many features (just like the painting) which included video, a virtual gallery version as an online blog, a printed floor layout of the gallery with tiny works.
I also did some training on Blogs - which were just catching on at the time.
